Target:

The chair was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the project in the field of strategic development of advanced ceramics in Germany. The aim of the research cooperation with the TU Darmstadt, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Rödel, was to present the development of ceramic research to secure the future and future orientation of the German economy in the field of advanced ceramics.

Procedure:

The preparation of a strategy paper was carried out with the involvement of companies and research institutions. For its realization, the information already available in Germany and abroad was collected with the involvement of international experts. The specific objectives of the survey, interviews, market and patent analysis and a symposium were to develop the strategy paper and highlight examples of success in ceramics research, to analyze the current position of advanced ceramics, to derive a need for research and development in German industry and science and to specify recommendations for action to strengthen ceramics research. In addition, a presentation of the strengths and weaknesses of advanced ceramics in Germany was to be made in comparison with competing materials, but also with competing countries. This included the elaboration and concretization of the various research and application areas in ceramic research, up to 2025, in which new scientific knowledge may lie in the future.

Duration:

The project "Strategies for securing the future of ceramic research" was successfully implemented in the period from 01.07.2005 to 30.06.2007.
