November 08 - Focus: Blockchain - Start: 18:00

Blockchain or Flopchain - What could a blockchain society look like in 2050?

As Blockchain has become known as the technology behind the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. has become known. However, this disruptive technology offers far more areas of application than just a means of payment: In principle, a smart contract running on the blockchain can be used to carry out any transaction without the help of intermediaries, be it buying a house or renting a drill via MyHammer. In addition, the immutability of the blockchain means that value chains are listed transparently. This means that a consumer can not only track the journey her yoghurt pot has taken, but also check the authenticity and origin of her diamond.

But what is blockchain, this so-called decentralized database, and how could it change our trading system and ultimately our society in the long term? What potential does the technology actually have or is it just hype? What if electricity, real estate and services were traded exclusively via blockchain-based platforms and we could verify our digital identity at the registry office or when voting via the blockchain?
