Beyond the Horizon - Next Stop: Metaverse?

On November 17, 2022, the Chair of Innovation and Technology Management (iTM) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Fraunhofer ISI) will host the lecture and discussion round "Beyond the Horizon - Next Stop: Metaverse?" in the series "Focus: Future. Our Life 2050."

Not least due to the renaming of Facebook to Meta, the Metaverse gained attention. Broadly speaking, the metaverse describes a virtual world in which avatars can move around and use and acquire virtual objects. In addition, the link between the digital and analog worlds is also an important aspect. So-called digital twins are digital images of real objects.

But what initially sounds like science fiction and a computer game has the potential to decisively change business, politics and society. What are the key advantages for companies? Which areas of application are most promising? What political and legal framework conditions are necessary? These and other questions will be discussed in the lecture and discussion session.

Host Univ. Prof. Dr. Marion A. Weissenberger-Eibl, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and Chair of Innovation and Technology Management (iTM) invites to the discussion and lecture round on November 17. Her introductory lecture was followed by the impulse lectures of the speakers.

The event takes place in the TRIANGEL Open Space (Kaiserstraße 93, 76133 Karlsruhe) and starts at 18:30. Admission is from 6:00 pm via the entrance to TRIANGEL Open Space in Kaiserstraße. Admission is free of charge.
